Transitting in Changi

I thought I'll drop in another short note while waiting for my connecting flight home.

Gosh!! SIA's Boeing 777 has been refurbished and it looks so much brighter and cleaner! The entertainment screen now too is a lot bigger that my last trip which is more than 12 months ago! Technology has certainly improved.

I didn't get to sleep much on the flight as i have a child, a baby and their mom sitting next to me! It's not that bad. Don't get me wrong.......I was just helping the mom a little bit as the baby is a handful for her! LoL.....

Going off.......
Penang Food, specifically curry mee (aka karli-mee), here I come! =P

Home Is Where My Heart Is

Regardless of what will happen in the coming election, I think Penang will always be my home, specifically the close family and friends too.

The feeling of coming home for a short break excites me since I'll be flying off in a few hours (agonising few hours). Perhaps it's been more than 12 months since I last stepped foot at home and be surrounded with the aromatic Pg food as well as the companionships of good old friends!

You can take away Malaysia from me, I will always be a Malaysian (more so, Penangite).

Penang Here I Come...........!!!

p/s: Probably last post for Feb unless I have time which I don't think so since I will be spending more time family, friends and FOOD!!!

My First Wedding Shoot

Updated: 13 Feb 2008

When most were lazing at home, sleeping in and/or visiting friends and families on the 3rd day of CNY, I was preparing for a wedding shoot as a so called "apprentice". Excited and anxious I was!

I have to admit that it's a tiring day that went past midnight but certainly a great experience. Thanks to my friend, Hien of Lumens Photography for giving me the opportunity to tag along.

This has certainly allowed me to look back and identify areas I'm still weak at since I am comfortable with some environment. Here are some of the pics of Amy and Dean on 9 Feb 2008.
~~A Happy Day Indeed~~

More to come on my website. The newly-wed, bestmen and bridesmaids are really easy-going and funny bunch of people and that really made the difference!

With about 10 months to go for a friend's wedding, I have heaps to garner and improve (hopefully)!

Congrats to the newly-wed!

Photography Workshop

About 2.5 weeks ago, I attended a workshop to pick some tips from other photographers, not only from the pro! Anthony McKee is one of them who gave an interesting talk on ambient light. A quote from him (which was from his master) goes something along this line "The study of light takes a lifetime, not 10 years".
"Give me light and I'll bend it"

Surprisingly, I didn't take lots of photos that are worthy of posting. The models (Claudia, Mel & Mel - Bruce tried to get them all named Mel!!) are certainly very accommodating to us newbies. Most of the time I was just trying out the lighting and absorbing as much as I could without trying to get distracted by taking too many pics! Anyway, here are some of the keepers I thought are nice.

Here's the group shot of us - fellow photographers and models.

Lessons learnt:
Emotion, emotion, emotion
Reflections, Ambient, Skylight, Colours, Rim Light, Scrooge on Flash
Relax and Chat (no counting down) to get candids

It's certainly a worthwhile workshop. Thanks to Bruce who organised this event, the instructors - Anthony (ambient & overall), Wayne (flash), Dave (macro) & Bruce (studio lighting)!

On a not too related note, Anthony was one of the 3 pre-production D3 testers in Australia. He's in for the available-light and ambient lighting tests and the other one for sports photography (forgotten about the other tog though - might be macro or product). He's still waiting for his actual production D3 (last check) from Nikon.

Change of Winds

I have been given the honour of being the photographer for my good ol' friend's wedding which will be held in November this year!

This is exciting yet I'm kinda feeling the pressure of doing it! Having said that, I've got 10 more months to further sharpen my skills.

This is all good news after a string sad ones! This news was imparted to me while we were all chilling out in Mt Dandenong last Saturday. It's definitely a wonderful change.

Chinese New Year is also around the corner but I'm missing the atmosphere with the CNY songs blasting every where back home! Worse thing is we will be working through the CNY but the only consolation is my Financial Controller is treating us to CNY lunch on 7 Feb 2008 which is the 1st day of CNY (or Lunar New Year).

Anyway, I've been chatting with one of my best high school friend of mine. It's great catching up and might do a trip while on my trip back to meet up.

Time for bed........
